Welcome, Y Olso Product Strategy Workshop Participants!
I look forward to meeting you this Wednesday, October 19th. The workshop door opens at 08:30 for coffee, and we’ll start promptly at 09:00, and we’ll finish the day at 15:30. (The workshop address is Kulturhuset, Youngs gate 6, 0181 Oslo, Norway: click here for a map pin.) Bring both your laptop and mobile device.

Based on the results of the pre-event survey, I assigned each person to a team. Here’s the link for your team’s pre-formatted Google Slides.
If you’re busy and don’t have time to read the details further down this page:
Click here to complete the pre-event survey so I can form 2-4 person teams for the workshop activities
Click here to do the pre-reading. (It will take about an hour, and you don’t have to do the exercises in advance.)
More context and detail below:
Homework: Please complete this pre-reading, “How to Define Your Product Strategy.” The reading will take about one hour, and you don’t need to complete the exercises— you’ll do them during the workshop.
Assigning small workshop teams: Throughout the day, I will illustrate product strategy concepts using Netflix cases, and then you’ll complete the strategy exercises in small, 2-4 person groups using pre-formatted Google Slides. You’ll be Head of Product for the day for:
1. Spotify
2. Airbnb, or
3. Your own product (as long as you’re attending the workshop with at least one other colleague from your company)
Note: sometimes it’s more fun NOT to work on your own product. You’ll learn the concepts and then apply them to your work the next day.
Pre-event survey: Click here to let me know your preference for the product you would like to work on so that I can form small teams, based on your preference.
Questions? You can contact me at gbiddle616@gmail.com, or my WhatsApp number is 650 867 4338.
Bring your laptop: You’ll need both your laptop and mobile device to complete the exercises.
Bonus: Marcus Castenfors from Sweden will help me during the session. We have worked together virtually for the last two years, but this is the first time we will work together in person!
My background on LinkedIn: Click here. You are welcome to connect with me, but please leave a note indicating you are attending the workshop on Wednesday.
Here’s a detailed agenda:

Based on the results of the pre-event survey, I will assign you a team number. Here’s the link for your team’s pre-formatted Google Slides. (I will share the team assignments at the beginning of the workshop on Wednesday.) Again, no work is required before the workshop begins.
Go-Do’s (if you haven’t done it already):
Click here to read my “How To Define Your Product Strategy” series on Medium— it’s about an hour of reading. You do not need to do any of the exercises in advance. (We will do the exercises for DHM, GEM, SMT, and Roadmap during the session.)
Fill out the pre-event survey! Sometimes repetition works ;)

NOTES TO ORGANIZERS
Gib intro for the session: “Gib was VP of Product at Netflix starting in 2005. In 2010 he became Chief Product Officer at Chegg, a homework help and textbook rental company that went public in 2014. Today, he’s a teacher, adviser, and writer.” If no one is there to do an intro, I can handle this myself. I will introduce Marcus.
I have a MacBook Pro with a dongle that attaches to HDMI for a projector/monitor. I have my own clicker and assume the room has good wireless for the Google Slides I present. Participants will need the internet, too, in order to complete their work using their pre-formatted Google Slides. I will need power to plug in my laptop, too. I assume there will be a microphone. (I prefer a wearable lavalier microphone, but can also use a handheld microphone.) Sometimes it’s good to have an extra microphone for participant questions and comments, but we can live without it.
The flow for the day will move back and forth between the presentation by me at the front of the room, to small 2-4 person teams working together to complete their pre-formatted Google Slides. I find round tables work best, but I can handle anything. I’ll be at the room by 8 am to work out the set up, and can also check on the location the day before.
Refreshments and lunch: I assume coffee, etc, at 8:30 and my planned lunch break is from 11:45 to 12:30. (It’s fine if lunch arrives at 11:30, but we won’t break until 11:45.) There will also be a break from 14:00 to 14:20. We’ll complete the workshop by 15:30.
My contact: gbiddle616@gmail.com and 650 867 4338 for my cell/WhatsApp.
Thanks,
Gib
